Understand the Assignment

Confirm the topic, date, required duration, slide requirements, referencing style and whether every member must speak. Ignoring one instruction can cost marks.

Divide the Work Clearly

Give every member a specific responsibility, such as introduction, main concept, examples, challenges, conclusion or references. Everyone should still understand the whole topic rather than knowing only one paragraph.

Set an Earlier Deadline

If the presentation is Friday, try to finish individual contributions a day or two earlier. This leaves time to combine sections, remove repetition and correct missing information.

Research Before Designing Slides

Start with lecture materials and consult reliable sources where necessary. Gather the important information first, then decide what belongs on each slide.

Keep Slides Simple

Slides should support the speaker rather than contain an entire essay. Use short points, useful diagrams, tables and labelled examples. The audience should be able to read the slide while listening to you.

Practise Aloud

Time yourself and practise difficult sentences. Also practise transitions between speakers so everyone knows who speaks next.

Prepare for Questions

Identify likely questions about definitions, examples, limitations and major arguments. If you do not know an answer, do not invent one.

Have a Backup

Save the presentation in more than one place and keep an offline copy. Know the main points well enough to continue if the projector or internet fails.

Presentation-Day Checklist

Check the file, backup, speaking order, timing, references, devices and chargers. Arrive early enough to test the presentation.

A strong presentation shows that your group understands the subject and can communicate it clearly.
